My Macbeth, and the ghost of lone and level sand that’s stretched far away boundless and bare is the latest production of Beyn Theater Group, developed in the aftermath of woman-life-freedom movement and inspired by it. It is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth by incorporating carnivalesque form.

My Macbeth is Beyn Theatre Group's adaptation of Shakespeare's classic tragedy, born in the wake of the Woman-Life-Freedom movement. Rather than retelling the familiar story of a king's rise and fall, the performance shifts its gaze to those history tends to forget: the witches, reimagined here as women who have survived violence, oppression, and the repeated failures of political power.
In this version, the witches are not agents of evil. They are bearers of genuine hope — and it is precisely this hope that sets the tragedy in motion. As power changes hands and one ruler gives way to another, the performance asks whether replacing those at the top can ever truly transform the structures beneath them.
Arriving at the culmination of a long artistic journey, My Macbeth draws together everything the group has developed across its previous works — collective creation, bodily presence, musicality as a dramaturgical force — and channels it through the disruptive energy of the carnivalesque. This is a deliberate choice, shaped by the political and artistic stakes of the material: hierarchies are upended, authority is exposed in its absurdity, and marginalized voices push their way to the center of the stage. Shakespeare's text becomes a living field of possibilities, interwoven with song, collective movement, physical encounter, and newly created scenes, building a theatrical world where the boundary between performer and character, past and present, is never fixed.
The result is a performance that remains in dialogue with Shakespeare while constructing something distinctly its own — a reflection on power, memory, and the painful repetition of history.
